We live in an era of entitlements, bailouts, and monumental budget deficits. The government’s formulaic spending has placed the country on a path toward insolvency. Instead of making the needed course correction, Congress just passed a health care bill likely to lead to a take over of the nation’s entire health care system.

And the crisis is not only in D.C. At the state level, unprecedented budget shortfalls plague the appropriations process. We mortgaged the state capitol and other state buildings in order to pay last year’s operating expenses. We now “rollover” $1.152 billion of state aid to schools from each fiscal year to the next so that unbalanced budgets of previous years appear to be balanced on paper. We increased property taxes by a record $250 million, and a $1 billion sales tax increase will be before the voters in May. If we continue to apply temporary fixes, the state’s budget crisis will likely be with us for the foreseeable future.

Our great nation will not remain strong and free if the government continues to live beyond its means. For this reason, I am passionately motivated to run for the Legislature where I pledge to be a voice for fiscal responsibility. I will protect your tax dollars and promote the pro-growth policies that will restore sorely needed jobs to our economy. I will stand up for state’s rights and individual freedoms.

I am well prepared to serve in this capacity. I have spent years on the front-lines defending the citizens of Arizona against government intrusion and excessive taxes. With this experience, I will effectively defend the limited-government principles that made our nation great beginning on my first day in office.
